SPOILERS: Sorry for those of you I spoiled, I thought it was ample time after the movie was released. In hindsight, I really should have waited a couple more weeks.

Because he's the Robin we needed, but not the one we deserved.
There seems to be split among the fans about this guy - some Robin fans detest the fact that his name isn't just Dick, Jason, or Tim, and others really like the guy because he reminds them of their beloved Robins.
I'm in the latter camp - I think John Blake is a great character! I'd say he's 60% Tim Drake, 30% Dick Grayson, and 10% Jason Todd...more or less. But he's definitely influenced most by Tim's character.
Anyway, I personally think he'd become "Robin" or "Red Robin." I just thought it was brilliant for him to be able to fight crime with his real name, and still protect his loved ones with his "John Blake" persona. The guy said himself he wasn't afraid to show himself when standing up to the corrupt, but Batman told him he had to wear a mask in order to protect the ones he loved. Being "Robin" in the mask and armored suit allows him to do both! Genius or plain stupid?
I think him becoming anyone of these masked vigilantes is totally valid. Case in point, Nolan made it so that John Blake could be whoever we need him to be. For me, it'll be Robin, and for others it might be Batman II.
All this said, I do NOT want them to try to add on to Nolan's world. It should stay as is - this is merely to tickle our imaginations.
Here's my two cents it anybody wants it. I can live with him being another Robin, as there have been a few non-canon Robins through the years that I've actually grown the like (namely, Carrie Kelly), but here's my biggest beef with the character. A. Now people (the general public) are going to be confused as hell over who Robin is, if it wasn't already confusing enough. He's essentially ruined any chances of Dick, Jay and Tim's stories getting told, which means people will miss out on these amazing characters B. People who know a least a little about the Bat family have already taken to calling him Nightwing and making fake Nightwing movie posters featuring him. Dick Grayson, being my favorite comic book character ever, cannot be replaced by Robin Blake, and to do so would (and I am biased here) be blasphemy to his character and to the Nightwing title in general.
I liked the Nolan verse all the way up to DKR it made me irritated no south American bane, ok looking Talia, then John Blake } I partially got over it but call him NightBat because the combination
Well that's the thing.. in the case of John Blake, he's not looking to hide his identity. I think it works just fine that he'd go by his real name while fighting crime. Because then Robin is the secret identity, not John Blake, unlike Batman's secret identity being Bruce Wayne. The reason why it works for me is that the whole world knows Bruce Wayne, and no one knows this Robin John Blake guy. You don't buy it? Ah well it's okay. Nolan's Batman is done and over with haha. As much as I like to think about how it would all turn out, it ended the way it did to end Bruce's story, not necessarily to star Robin's.
In terms of money, I'm sure he'd get funded by Bruce - a lot like the dynamic between Bruce and Tim before adoption in the comics. From what I remember, Bruce gave Tim some money to have his own apartment and equipment to fight crime on his own. At that time, Batman and Robin had their own separate titles, and had their own adventures.
Aw man they better be! While I enjoy the movie versions of Batman, they all end up being a director's interpretation - which I think is cool, but at some point I'd like to see a definitive Batman on screen.
I'm hoping they ditch origin stories, and just have the Bat-family be there from the start. Probably not going to happen, but I can dream!
I thought Robin John Blake was a clever character, all the Robins and yet none of them. You feel he is mostly Tim Drake. I think he has Tim Drake personality, but Dick Grayson's physical appearance. The costumes are nice renditions of their comic counterparts, the first and the third being my personal choices for any film adaptation. Do you think we will ever get a Nightwing on the big screen?

Thats a terrible idea.
Great concepts I do like them. Where does heave the money to do this?

I just hope the next movies are comic book centered.
